How often should you shampoo your hair?

 

There is no right or wrong answer. The frequency of shampooing your hair can vary depending on various factors, including your hair type, scalp condition, personal preferences, the activities you do and the environment that you are in.

 

The general consensus by most experts is shampoo 2 to 3x a week. This is to prevent natural oils from being washed off. But this advice is for the general population. However, if you live in a hot and humid environment like in Singapore, it is okay to shampoo daily.

 

As a rule of thumb, it is advisable to shampoo before going out and shampoo again after you come back from outside, especially in a hot and humid city like Singapore. This is because when outside, the scalp will be exposed to the environment dirt and dusts, causing the scalp to be oily. You also want your scalp to smell good before going out and after come back from outside.

 

If you engage in any sports activities and sweat after that, then shampooing is a must right after sports. If you frequently use hair styling products like gels or hairsprays, you may need to shampoo more often to remove product buildup. However, if on a particular day you are not going out and stay indoor in an aircon room throughout the day, then it is okay to stop shampooing for the entire day. To conclude, how often to shampoo will depend on the environment you are in and the activities you do.
